Solute Carrier Family 34, Member 3 (SLC34A3)

NPTIIc; Sodium-dependent phosphate transport protein 2C; Na(+)-dependent phosphate cotransporter 2C; Sodium/inorganic phosphate cotransporter IIC

Solute Carrier Family 34, Member 3 (SLC34A3)
SLC34A3 is expressed primarily in the kidney. It is involved in transporting phosphate into cells via sodium cotransport in the renal brush border membrane, and contributes to the maintenance of inorganic phosphate concentration in the kidney. Mutations in this gene are associated with hereditary hypophosphatemic rickets with hypercalciuria.
Slc34a3 expression was highest in brush border membrane vesicles obtained from weaning rats. Expression was lower in adult rats and lowest in suckling rats. Immunohistochemical analysis of kidneys from weaning rats detected Slc34a3 in the brush border of juxtamedullary proximal tubular cells. Levels were lower in proximal tubular cells of superficial nephrons.
