Proton Coupled Amino Acid Transporter 2 (PAT2)

SLC36A2; Tramdorin, TRAMD1; Solute Carrier Family 36 Member 2,Proton/Amino Acid Symporter

Proton Coupled Amino Acid Transporter 2 (PAT2)
SLC36A2, The deduced 483-amino acid protein contains 11 transmembrane domains, various putative N-glycosylation sites, and 3 histidine residues critical for proton binding. The authors predicted that the N terminus is intracellular and that the C terminus may be extracellular or, in the case of a lysosomal location, intralysosomal.
SLC36A2 shares 89% amino acid similarity with mouse Slc36a2. RT-PCR detected Slc36a2 in all mouse tissues examined.Direct evidence for amino acid/H(+) symport was shown by intracellular acidification. Slc36a2 also recognized the D-enantiomers and select amino acid derivatives, such as gamma-aminobutyric acid. Under the same transport conditions, Slc36a2 showed higher affinity transport than mouse Slc36a1.
