Solute Carrier Family 45, Member 1 (SLC45A1)

By study of a yeast artificial chromosome spanning a translocation/duplication breakpoint within the minimally defined loss of heterozygosity region at 1p36.2-p36.1 in a neuroblastoma cell line, Amler et al. (2000) identified a novel gene, which they designated DNB5.

DNB5 encodes a deduced 447-amino acid protein. Northern blot analysis revealed a single 2.4-kb transcript in adult heart, brain, muscle, and kidney, with very strong expression in brain. Fetal brain and kidney showed transcripts of approximately equal intensity, with weaker expression in fetal lung and no detectable transcript in fetal liver. Direct sequence analysis of parts of the DNB5 gene revealed no evidence for mutation in neuroblastoma.
