Prostein(PRST), The deduced 553-amino acid protein is predicted to be a type IIIa plasma membrane protein with 11 potential transmembrane spans and a cleavable signal sequence. The closest sequence homology was 28% identity with the AIM1 protein.

Immunohistochemical analysis showed a punctate plasma membrane staining pattern. In many areas, the staining appeared to be clustered within the cytoplasm in a perinuclear location. Similar staining intensity was seen in tumors of different grades, indicating that expression is not grade specific. Treatment of LNCaP cells with androgen upregulated prostein message and expression levels, demonstrating that prostein expression is androgen responsive.
