Solute Carrier Family 6, Member 16 (SLC6A16)

NTT5; Neurotransmitter Transporter 5; Orphan sodium-and chloride-dependent neurotransmitter transporter NTT5

Solute Carrier Family 6, Member 16 (SLC6A16)
SLC6A16 shows structural characteristics of an Na(+)- and Cl(-)-dependent neurotransmitter transporter, including 12 transmembrane (TM) domains, intracellular N and C termini, and large extracellular loops containing multiple N-glycosylation sites.NTT5 contains 12 transmembrane domains with large extracellular loops between TMs 3 and 4 and between TMs 7 and 8. It has 2 potential extracellular N-glycosylation sites and 4 potential protein kinase C consensus sites. NTT5 shares 28% identity with rat Ntt4 and 29% identity with V7-3 (SLC6A15). PCR analysis detected highest expression of NTT5 in testis, intermediate expression in pancreas, prostate, uterus, liver, and lung, low expression in spinal cord, kidney, spleen, stomach, and uterus, and very low levels in all other tissues.
