NADPH oxidases (NOXs) catalyze the transfer of electrons from NADPH to molecular oxygen to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS). NOX organizers, such as NOXO1, target NOX activators to NOX and also target NOX to different subcellular compartments.
NOXO1 was expressed throughout the gastrointestinal tract, including all regions of small and large intestine. PCR analysis using specific primers showed that NOXO1-beta was the major mRNA in colon and fetal liver, and that NOXO1-gamma was the major mRNA in testis. Neither NOXO1-alpha nor NOXO1-delta were expressed at significant levels in any tissue tested.
