Spectrin Beta, Non Erythrocytic 5 (SPTbN5)

HUSPECV; BSPECV; HUBSPECV; Beta-V spectrin

Spectrin Beta, Non Erythrocytic 5 (SPTbN5)
SPTBN5 is most similar to the Drosophila beta-H spectrin and contains 1 partial and 29 complete spectrin repeats (106-amino acid repetitive units composed of 3 alpha helices). SPTBN5 has a modestly conserved actin-binding domain, a conserved membrane-association domain-1, a conserved self-association domain, and a C-terminal pleckstrin homology domain. The putative ankyrin-binding domain of SPTBN5 is poorly conserved and may be inactive. SPTBN5 expression at very low levels in many human tissues, with strongest expression in cerebellum, spinal cord, stomach, pituitary gland, liver, pancreas, salivary gland, kidney, bladder, and heart. Indirect immunofluorescence showed expression of Bspecv in rat retina in the outer segments of photoreceptor rods and cones and in stomach in cytosol of gastric epithelial cells.
