Spire Homolog 2 (SPIRE2)

SPIR2

Spire Homolog 2 (SPIRE2)
By sequencing clones obtained from a size-fractionated fetal brain cDNA library, Nagase et al. (2001) cloned SPIRE2, which they designated KIAA1832. The cDNA contains an Alu element 5-prime to the first ATG codon.
The ATG codon was not found in the context of a Kozak sequence, indicating that the cDNA may represent a partial transcript. The deduced 694-amino acid protein shares significant similarity with SPIRE1 , a homolog of Drosophila Spire. RT-PCR ELISA detected intermediate expression in most tissues and specific brain regions examined. Little to no expression was detected in heart and skeletal muscle. The International Radiation Hybrid Mapping Consortium mapped the SPIRE2 gene to chromosome 18 .
