FACT; FACTP140; SPT16/CDC68; CDC68; Facilitates chromatin transcription complex subunit SPT16; Chromatin-specific transcription elongation factor 140 kDa subunit

Suppressor Of Ty 16 Homolog (SUPT16H)
One such factor, FACT (facilitates chromatin transcription), interacts specifically with histones H2A/H2B to effect nucleosome disassembly and transcription elongation. FACT is composed of an 80 kDa subunit and a 140 kDa subunit; this gene encodes the 140 kDa subunit.
The predicted 1,047-amino acid FACTp140 protein shares 36% amino acid identity with S. cerevisiae Spt16/Cdc68, an essential nuclear protein required for normal transcription of a wide variety of genes transcribed by RNA polymerase II. In Western blot analysis, antibodies against recombinant FACTp140 recognized native FACTp140. Peptide sequence analysis showed that FACTp80 corresponds to the SSRP1 protein .
