Synaptotagmin VIII (SYT8)

SytVIII; Synaptotagmin-8

Synaptotagmin VIII (SYT8)
Synaptotagmins, such as SYT8, share a common domain structure that includes a transmembrane domain and a cytoplasmic region composed of 2 C2 domains. Some synaptotagmins are involved in synaptic membrane fusion, while others have a more general function in endocytosis.
Li et al. (1995) cloned mouse Syt8. RT-PCR of rat tissues revealed expression in all tissues examined, with evidence of more than 1 transcript. By in vitro assay of recombinant protein, they found that Syt8 bound adaptor protein-2 in a Ca(2+)-independent manner, but unlike several other synaptotagmins, Syt8 did not bind phospholipids or syntaxins .
