TatD DNase Domain Containing Protein 1 (TATDN1)

The amidohydrolase superfamily (AHS) comprises a large cluster of enzymes with remarkable substrate diversity ranging from amino acids, sugars, nucleic acids to organophosphate esters. Some enzymes have been shown to catalyze the hydrolysis of C-O, C-N, and P-O bonds, in addition to decarboxylation, hydration and isomerization.

In E. coli the tatD gene is co-transcribed with tatABC, which encodes membrane proteins for the Sec-independent protein translocation system. However, TatD is shown to be a cytoplasmic protein with Mg²⁺-dependent DNase activity, and has no identified roles in protein transport. Therefore the cellular functions of TatD, as well as homologous proteins identified in other genomes, remain to be determined. TatD DNase domain-containing protein 1 (TATDN1).
