Tenascin M (TNM)
The predicted full-length human protein contains 2,705 amino acids. It has an N-terminal intracellular domain containing 3 EF-hand motifs and 2 proline-rich repeats, a transmembrane domain, and a C-terminal extracellular domain containing 8 EGF-like repeats, an EF-hand motif, and multiple YD repeats. Northern blot analysis of several human tissues detected a 9.5-kb transcript in fetal brain only. In developing chicken, expression was concentrated in retina, optic tectum, and specific nuclei of the dorsal diencephalon.culture substrate coated with the YD repeat region of chicken teneurin-1 supported neuron outgrowth from dorsal root ganglion explants. No other portion of the protein supported outgrowth, and the interaction between neurons and the YD repeats was inhibited by heparin.
