Thrombospondin Type I Domain Containing Protein 6 (THSD6)

ADAMTSL5; ADAMTS-like protein 5

Thrombospondin Type I Domain Containing Protein 6 (THSD6)
ADAMTSL5 is a member of ADAMTS (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs)-like gene family and encodes a protein with protein with seven thrombospondin type 1 repeats. The thrombospondin type 1 repeat domain is found in many proteins with diverse biological functions including cellular adhesion, angiogenesis, and patterning of the developing nervous system. Alternate transcriptional splice variants, encoding different isoforms, have been characterized.
The ADAMTS gene family provides instructions for making a group of enzymes with a wide variety of functions. These enzymes are described as metalloproteases, which means that they contain a metal (in this case, zinc) and have protease activity (that is, they cut apart other proteins).
