Thymus High Mobility Group Box Protein 3 (TOX3)

TOX3 belongs to the large and diverse family of HMG-box proteins that function as architectural factors in the modification of chromatin structure by bending and unwinding DNA.

The deduced 576-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of 63.3 kD. It has a central lysine-rich nuclear localization signal followed by an HMG box. TOX3 shares a high degree of similarity with the mouse Tox3 protein, with the exception of a trinucleotide repeat coding for glutamine in the C terminus that is not found in the mouse.TNRC9 was one of 69 genes that was differentially expressed in patients who experienced breast cancer relapse to bone versus those who experienced relapse elsewhere in the body.
