Transcription Elongation Factor A Like Protein 8 (TCEAL8)

Transcription elongation factor S-II protein-like 8

Transcription Elongation Factor A Like Protein 8 (TCEAL8)
TCEAL8 encodes a member of the transcription elongation factor A (SII)-like (TCEAL) gene family. Members of this family contain TFA domains and may function as nuclear phosphoproteins that modulate transcription in a promoter context-dependent manner. Multiple family members are located on the X chromosome. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding a single isoform. Transcription elongation factors help RNA polymerase II to transcribe past blockages due to specific DNA sequences, DNA-binding proteins, and transcription-arresting drugs. Transcription elongation factors in humans fall into 2 classes: the SIII /TF2F class, members of which increase the average rate of RNA chain elongation ; and the SII class, which releases RNA polymerase II from transcriptional arrest .
