Transcription Factor AP2 Gamma (TFAP2g)
TFAP2g is a sequence-specific DNA-binding transcription factor involved in the activation of several developmental genes. The encoded protein can act as either a homodimer or heterodimer with other family members and is induced during retinoic acid-mediated differentiation. The deduced 450-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of about 48 kD. TFAP2C and TFAP2A share 65% sequence identity overall and 76% identity in their C-terminal halves, which contain the DNA-binding and dimerization domains.TFAP2C gene contains 7 exons and spans about 8.4 kb. Exon 1 is untranslated. The promoter region of TFAP2C contains no canonical TATA and CCAAT boxes, but it does have a cluster of CpG islands, as well as binding sites for OCT1 and AP2.
