Transcription Factor CP2 (TFCP2)

TFCP2 encodes a transcription factor that binds the alpha-globin promoter and activates transcription of the alpha-globin gene. The encoded protein regulates erythroid gene expression, plays a role in the transcriptional switch of globin gene promoters, and it activates many other cellular and viral gene promoters. The gene product interacts with certain inflammatory response factors, and polymorphisms of this gene may be involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease.The deduced LBP1C and LBP1D proteins contain 502 and 451 amino acids, respectively. In vitro translation resulted in proteins with apparent molecular masses of 64 and 58 kD, respectively. LBP1D lacks part of a putative N-terminal DNA-binding domain found in LBP1C. LBP1C shares 72% amino acid identity with LBP1A, with highest identity in the N-terminal halves.
