Transgelin 2 (TAGLN2)

Epididymis tissue protein Li 7e; SM22-alpha homolog

Transgelin 2 (TAGLN2)
TAGLN2 is a homolog of the protein transgelin, which is one of the earliest markers of differentiated smooth muscle. The function of this protein has not yet been determined.mouse and human TAGLN2 share 95% amino acid sequence identity.
The deduced 199-amino acid TAGLN2 protein shares 69.7% amino acid sequence identity with rat neuronal protein NP25 over 195 amino acids. Northern blot analysis detected TAGLN2 expression in all 16 human tissues examined, with high expression in lung, liver, kidney, spleen, thymus, small intestine, colon, prostate, testis, ovary, placenta, and peripheral blood leukocytes, lower expression in skeletal muscle, pancreas, and heart, and lowest expression in brain.
