Translocase Of Inner Mitochondrial Membrane 17A (TIMM17A)

TIM17; TIM17A; Inner membrane preprotein translocase Tim17a

Translocase Of Inner Mitochondrial Membrane 17A (TIMM17A)
TIMM17A shares 46% amino acid identity with yeast Tim17 and contains 4 hydrophobic membrane-spanning segments, conserving the N-out/C-out topology of the yeast protein.TIMM17A is 76% identical to TIMM17B, differing primarily in the C terminus. TIMM17A is imported into the mitochondria via the TOMM70 rather than the more common TOMM20 pathway. Western blot analysis showed that TIMM17A colocalizes with the inner membrane fraction of mitochondria as a 17-kD protein. Individually, TIMM17A and TIMM17B interact with TIMM23, forming 2 distinct 110-kD complexes.TIMM17B and TIMM17A contain 7 exons plus 1 exon coding entirely for the 5-prime UTR. While the exon lengths are highly conserved, the gene sizes differ markedly by variations in intron lengths.
