Translocase Of Inner Mitochondrial Membrane 9 Homolog (TIMM9)

TIM9; TIM9A; Mitochondrial import inner membrane translocase subunit Tim9

Translocase Of Inner Mitochondrial Membrane 9 Homolog (TIMM9)
TIMM9 belongs to a family of evolutionarily conserved proteins that are organized in heterooligomeric complexes in the mitochondrial intermembrane space. These proteins mediate the import and insertion of hydrophobic membrane proteins into the mitochondrial inner membrane.
By database searching with the human and S. pombe TIMM8A sequences as queries, Jin et al. (1999) identified several novel members of the TIM family, including TIMM9. The TIMM9 protein contains 89 amino acids. Northern blot analysis detected ubiquitous expression of 1.2- and 2.4-kb TIMM9 transcripts in adult tissues, with highest expression in skeletal and cardiac muscle and in pancreas.
