Transmembrane Protein 2 (TMEM2)

Transmembrane Protein 2 (TMEM2)
Scott et al. (2000) isolated a novel transcript on chromosome 9q13-q21. By EST database searching and amplification by 5-prime RACE from a human fetal brain cDNA library, they obtained a full-length cDNA encoding transmembrane protein-2 (TMEM2).
The TMEM2 gene encodes a deduced 1,381-amino acid protein that contains at least one transmembrane domain and shares approximately 80% sequence identity with the mouse ortholog. Cochlear expression of TMEM2 was detected by PCR amplifications of a fetal cochlear cDNA library. Northern blot analysis detected expression of an approximately 7-kb transcript at varying amounts in a variety of tissues. No expression was detected in testis or ovary.
