Transmembrane Protein 49 (TMEM49)

Tmem49 expression in the fetal pancreas at embryonic day 19, and expression remained elevated until postnatal day 11. Tmem49 mRNA levels decreased by postnatal day 23, and expression was not detectable after that time. Both 1.9- and 2.7-kb Tmem49 transcripts were detected at high levels in adult rat intestine, kidney, ovary, and placenta with moderate expression in liver, lung, stomach, thymus, brain, and testis, and weak expression in thyroid and retina. In situ hybridization of rat pancreas localized Tmem49 to acinar cells in acute pancreatitis tissue. Induction of Tmem49 was also observed in postischemic kidney in an experimental rat model. Subcellular fractionation and immunofluorescence microscopy localized Tmem49 to the Golgi apparatus and endoplasmic reticulum.
