Tubulin Gamma Complex Associated protein 5 (TUBgCP5)

GCP5; Gamma-Tubulin Complex Component 5

Tubulin Gamma Complex Associated protein 5 (TUBgCP5)
GCP5 contains 23 exons and spans 46.8 kb. About 45% of the 3-prime untranslated region is Alu, and the 5-prime end is associated with a strong CpG island. The deduced protein contains 978 amino acids. Highest expression was detected in subthalamic nuclei of brain.
The deduced GCP5 protein has a calculated molecular mass of 118 kD and contains 5 regions conserved in other gamma-tubulin complex proteins. Immunofluorescence microscopy of human osteosarcoma cells localized GCP5 at the foci of microtubule asters in interphase cells and at spindle poles of mitotic cells, colocalizing with gamma-tubulin. Centrosomal GCP5 staining remained in the absence of microtubules, indicating that GCP5 is a core component of centrosomes.
