Tubulin Tyrosine Ligase Like Protein 1 (TTLL1)

TTLL1 is a member of a large family of proteins with a TTL homology domain, whose members could catalyze ligations of diverse amino acids to tubulins or other substrates. By sequence analysis and 5-prime RACE of a thymus cDNA library, Trichet et al. (2000) cloned a full-length cDNA encoding TTLL1. The predicted full-length TTLL1 protein contains 423 amino acids. Sequence analysis revealed 3 domains conserved among eukaryotic TTLL proteins, including TTLL1. Northern blot analysis detected a 1.8-kb TTLL1 transcript in all tissues tested, with strongest expression in heart, brain, and testis. In addition, a 4.8-kb transcript was strongly expressed in brain, a 5.6-kb transcript was weakly expressed in prostate and thymus, and an 8.4-kb transcript was weakly expressed in most tissues tested.
