Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha Induced Protein 3 Interacting Protein 2 (TNIP2)

TNIP2 binds to the C-terminal zinc finger domain of A20 (TNFAIP3) and is involved in activation of the ERK MAP kinase pathway in various cell types.

By yeast 2-hybrid screening of a mouse fibrosarcoma cDNA library using A20 as bait, followed by database analysis, Van Huffel et al. (2001) identified human TNIP2, which they called ABIN2. The mouse and human proteins share 76% amino acid identity. Northern blot analysis of mouse tissues revealed ubiquitous expression, with highest expression in kidney and weakest expression in skeletal muscle. Western blot analysis revealed a 50-kD endogenous Abin2 protein in mouse macrophages and fibrosarcoma cells.
