Tumor Protein p63 Regulated 1 Like Protein (TPRG1L)

FAM79A; MOVER; Family With Sequence Similarity 79 Member A; Mossy fiber terminal-associated vertebrate-specific presynaptic protein

Tumor Protein p63 Regulated 1 Like Protein (TPRG1L)
The deduced 266-amino acid mouse protein has no transmembrane domains or putative anchor sites. It is 91% identical with the human ortholog, FAM79A, which contains 272 amino acids. Database analysis revealed that the gene is present only in vertebrate genomes. Northern blot analysis of rat tissues detected high expression in brain and lower expression in heart, liver, kidney, and testis.
Using antisera to the Mover protein, they found that Mover was most abundant in brain and colocalized with presynaptic markers in the calyx of Held, a giant synaptic terminal that forms around the soma of principal cells in the medial nucleus of the trapezoid body. It was also seen in mossy fiber terminals of the hippocampus and in inhibitory terminals of the cerebellar cortex.
