UDP Glucuronosyltransferase 2 Family, Polypeptide A1 (UGT2A1)

UDPGT2A1; UGT2A2; UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 2A1

UDP Glucuronosyltransferase 2 Family, Polypeptide A1 (UGT2A1)
The deduced 527-amino acid UGT2A1 protein shares 87% overall amino acid sequence identity with rat Ugt2a1, approximately 60% identity with human UGT2B isoforms, and approximately 45% identity with human UGT1A isoforms. However, except with rat Ugt2a1, the N-terminal half of human UGT2A1, which is thought to contain the aglycone-binding site, exhibited a significantly lower degree of identity than the C-terminal half. Recombinant UGT2A1 expressed in mammalian cells had a molecular mass of approximately 55 kD by immunoblot analysis. Recombinant UGT2A1 had a broad substrate specificity, including a range of phenolic compounds, and aliphatic and monoterpenoid alcohols, among them many odorants.
