Ubiquitin Conjugating Enzyme E2Z (UBE2Z)
Modification of proteins with ubiquitin (UBB) or ubiquitin-like proteins controls many signaling networks and requires a ubiquitin activating enzyme (E1), a ubiquitin conjugating enzyme (E2), and a ubiquitin protein ligase (E3). UBE2Z is an E2 enzyme (Jin et al., 2007).
Jin et al. (2007) stated that the deduced 354-amino acid UBE2Z protein has a calculated molecular mass of about 38 kD. Database analysis revealed wide expression of the UBE2Z in human tissues and cell lines.
Jin et al. (2007) showed that UBE2Z was specifically charged with ubiquitin by UBA6 (UBE1L2), but not by UBE1.The International Radiation Hybrid Mapping Consortium mapped the UBE2Z gene to chromosome 17 (RH17824).
