Unc-13 Homolog C (UNC13C)

Unc-13 Homolog C (UNC13C)
SNPs at genes THBS1, FSIP1, EIF2AK4 and UNC13C were significantly associated with AMD in AREDS (P<0.01). The single best evidence for the locus on chromosome 15 was at the UNC13C gene.
UNC13C contains 35 different introns. Transcription produces 5 alternatively spliced mRNAs. There are 5 probable alternative promotors, 3 non overlapping alternative last exons and 3 validated alternative polyadenylation sites. The mRNAs appear to differ by truncation of the 5' end, truncation of the 3' end, presence or absence of a cassette exon, overlapping exons with different boundaries. the gene has been proposed to participate in processes. Proteins are expected to have molecular functionsand to localize in various compartments.
