Unc-45 Homolog A (UNC45A)
UNC45A plays a role in cell proliferation and myoblast fusion, binds progesterone receptor (PGR) and HSP90 (HSPCA), and acts as a regulator of the progesterone receptor chaperoning pathway.
UNC45A contains an N-terminal triple TPR motif, a unique central region, and a C-terminal UNC45/Cro1/She4p (UCS) domain. EST database searches showed human UNC45A expression over a wide range of tissues. The authors also clone mouse Unc45a, and Northern blot analysis of mouse tissues detected Unc45a expression in uterus, large intestine, kidney, spleen, lung, brain, liver, and ovary, with slightly lower levels in cardiac and skeletal muscle compared to nonstriated muscle tissues. Unc45a expression was detected in 12-day-old whole mouse embryos and in over 12 tumor types.
