Vestigial Like Protein 2 (VGLL2)

VITO1; VGL2; Transcription cofactor vestigial-like protein 2

Vestigial Like Protein 2 (VGLL2)
The deduced protein contains a scalloped interaction domain (SID). Northern blot analysis of human tissues detected strong VITO1 expression in adult fast muscle and weaker expression in adult slow muscle and fetal skeletal muscle. No expression was detected in fetal heart, kidney, liver, thymus, or brain.
Vito1 was more highly expressed in differentiated myotubes from the mouse C2C12 myogenic cell line than in undifferentiated cells. A 2.5-kb mRNA was detected in developing mouse embryos beginning at embryonic day 12.5 and in adult mouse skeletal muscle, but not in heart, brain, or kidney. In situ hybridization of developing mice showed Vito1 in the pharyngeal pouches and clefts starting at embryonic day 8, as well as in the cranial pharynx and in Rathke pouch.
