Von Willebrand Factor C Domain Containing Protein 2 (vWC2)
VWC2 is a secreted bone morphogenic protein antagonist. The encoded protein is possibly involved in neural function and development and may have a role in cell adhesion.Brorin contains 2 cysteine-rich domains; the positions of the cysteines in these domains are similar to those in members of the chordin family , but brorin shows no other sequence similarity with chordin family members. RT-PCR analysis revealed predominant expression of brorin in mouse brain, with gradually increasing expression during development. In situ hybridization showed strongest expression in neurons in the diencephalon and medulla oblongata. Expression was not observed in the cerebral cortex or in glial cells. Transfection experiments in COS-7 cells confirmed that brorin is a secreted protein.
