WAS/WASL Interacting Protein Family, Member 2 (WIPF2)
WIPF2 encodes a WASP interacting protein (WIP)-related protein. It has been shown that this protein has a role in the WASP-mediated organization of the actin cytoskeleton and that this protein is a potential link between the activated platelet-derived growth factor receptor and the actin polymerization machinery.Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome protein (WASP) family members are important regulators of actin polymerization .The predicted 440-amino acid proline-rich protein shares 40% identity with WIP. It contains an N-terminal WH2 domain, which includes a KLKK motif capable of binding monomeric actin, and binding motifs for profilin and SH3 domain-containing proteins. Northern blot analysis detected a 6.5-kb transcript in kidney, spleen, placenta, brain, and peripheral blood leukocytes and a 7.5-kb transcript in brain and leukocytes.
