WD repeat domains, like those found in WDR34, are protein-binding domains of approximately 40 amino acids that facilitate the formation of multimeric protein complexes. WDR34 interacts with and inhibits TAK1 (NR2C2), a protein kinase involved in innate immune responses and activation of NF-kappa-B.
The deduced 536-amino acid protein contains 5 WD domains dispersed throughout its middle and C-terminal regions. RT-PCR analysis of mouse tissues detected ubiquitous Wdr34 expression. Immunofluorescence analysis of HEK293 cells localized WDR34 predominantly in the cytoplasm. Western blot analysis of several human cell lines showed that WDR34 had an apparent molecular mass of 59 kD.
