Yippee Like Protein 5 (YPEL5)

YPEL5 contains 3 exons and spans about 15 kb. Exon 1 is untranslated. The mouse Ypel5 gene has the same structure.The deduced 121-amino acid protein shares 100% amino acid identity with mouse and monkey Ypel5 and 70.8% identity with Drosophila Yippee.

YPEL5 shares 43.8 to 49.5% amino acid identity with YPEL1, YPEL2, YPEL3, and YPEL4. All YPEL proteins contain an 86-amino acid YPEL consensus sequence. PCR analysis detected YPEL5 expression in all adult and fetal tissues examined. Immunofluorescent staining of COS-7 green monkey kidney cells localized Ypel5 to the centrosome and nucleus during interphase and at the mitotic spindle during mitosis.
