Zinc And Ring Finger Protein 1 (ZNRF1)

Nin283 was expressed by Schwann cells throughout the distal segment of the injured nerve, and its expression peaked 7 days after injury. The deduced 227-amino acid human protein has a highly conserved C-terminal region containing a unique zinc finger-RING finger motif. Human and mouse ZNRF1 share 99% amino acid identity. RT-PCR detected highest ZNRF1 expression in human fetal brain, with much lower expression in adult brain, testis, and thymus. In situ hybridization of embryonic and adult rat tissues showed that Znrf1 was highly expressed in neurons in the central and peripheral nervous systems during development and in adulthood. Fluorescence-tagged ZNRF1 colocalized with an endosome/lysosome marker in transfected monkey kidney cells and Schwann cells.
