Zinc Finger, DHHC-Type Containing Protein 9 (ZDHHC9)
ZDHHC9 encodes an integral membrane protein that is a member of the zinc finger DHHC domain-containing protein family. The encoded protein forms a complex with golgin subfamily A member 7 and functions as a palmitoyltransferase. This protein specifically palmitoylates HRAS and NRAS.The deduced 364-amino acid protein contains 4 transmembrane domains and a DHHC domain in the cytoplasmic loop between transmembrane spans 2 and 3. It shares 31% identity with yeast Erf2, including 70% identity in the DHHC domain. Northern blot analysis detected a 2.3-kb transcript in kidney, skeletal muscle, brain, lung, and liver. Weaker expression was detected in placenta, heart, colon, and small intestine, and no expression was detected in thymus, spleen, and peripheral blood leukocytes.
