Zinc Finger, MYM-Type Protein 3 (ZMYM3)

ZNF261; MYM

Zinc Finger, MYM-Type Protein 3 (ZMYM3)
ZMYM3 is located on the X chromosome and is subject to X inactivation. It is highly conserved in vertebrates and most abundantly expressed in the brain. The encoded protein is a component of histone deacetylase-containing multiprotein complexes that function through modifying chromatin structure to keep genes silent. A chromosomal translocation (X;13) involving this gene is associated with X-linked mental retardation. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. The cDNA contains a 4,074-bp ORF encoding a predicted 1,358-amino acid polypeptide.ZNF261 gene is highly conserved among vertebrates and that its expression is most abundant in brain.ZNF261 gene contains 25 exons, including 2 putative alternatively spliced noncoding exons (1A and 1B).
