Ankyrin Repeat And BTB/POZ Domain Containing Protein 1 (ABTB1)
ABTB1 encodes a protein with an ankyrin repeat region and two BTB/POZ domains, which are thought to be involved in protein-protein interactions. Expression of this gene is activated by the phosphatase and tensin homolog, a tumor suppressor. Alternate splicing results in three transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
The deduced 478-amino acid protein has a predicted molecular mass of 53.9 kD and contains an N-terminal ankyrin repeat, a bipartite nuclear localization signal, and 2 BTB/POZ domains. Semiquantitative RT-PCR detected high expression in all fetal tissues examined, including heart, brain, liver, and kidney, and low expression in adult normal and hypertrophic heart.
