Anoctamin 2 (ANO2)
By database searching with the sequence of TMEM16A as query, Katoh and Katoh (2003) identified TMEM16B. The deduced 999-amino acid TMEM16B protein shares 58.4% sequence identity with TMEM16A. Like TMEM16A, TMEM16B contains 8 potential transmembrane regions with the N- and C-terminal tails facing the cytoplasm and an N-linked glycosylation site in the fourth extracellular loop.
By sequence analysis, Katoh and Katoh (2003) mapped the TMEM16B gene to chromosome 12p13.Acts as a calcium-activated chloride channel (CaCC), mostly in photoreceptors. May mediate olfactory amplification in olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) and light perception amplification in retina.Retina, especially in the photoreceptor synaptic terminals.
