Cell Adhesion Molecule 1 (CADM1)
Loss of genetic material at the cytogenetic level and loss of heterozygosity (LOH) are frequently observed in tumors. The 11q22-q24 region has deletions or LOH in a variety of tumor types. Replacement of the missing copy of chromosome 11 in the A549 adenocarcinoma cell line with a normal chromosome 11 reversed tumorigenicity in nude mice, suggesting the existence of a tumor suppressor gene. TSLC1 localized in perinuclear and plasma membranes. The predicted 442-amino acid protein contains a signal peptide and a transmembrane domain. IGSF4 shares 65% identity with neural cell adhesion molecule-1 (NCAM1) and NCAM2 within their Ig-like C2-type domains. Northern blot analysis revealed expression of a 4.4-kb transcript in all tissues tested except leukocytes.
