Chorionic Mesenchymal Stem Cells (CMSCs)

Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs), are multipotent stromal cells that can differentiate into a variety of cell types, including: osteoblasts (bone cells),chondrocytes (cartilage cells), myocytes (muscle cells) and adipocytes (fat cells).  These properties, in combination with their developmental plasticity, have generated tremendous interest because of the potential use of MSCs in regenerative medicine to replace damaged tissues.Chorionic villi are a rich source of stem cells. Biocell Center, a biotech company managed by Giuseppe Simoni, is studying and testing these types of stem cells. Chorionic stem cells, like amniotic stem cells, are uncontroversial multipotent stem cells.MSCs cultured without serum in the presence of transformation growth factors will differentiate into chondrocytes. Chorionic mesenchymal stem Cells (SMSCs) derived from the chorion express CD271, possess characteristics of cardiomyocytes, and have various antiangiogenic and anti-inflammatory proteins.
