FK506 Binding Protein 8 (FKBP8)

FKBP38; FKBPr38; Rotamase; 38 kDa FK506-binding protein; Peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase FKBP8

FK506 Binding Protein 8 (FKBP8)
FK506-binding protein 8 is a member of the immunophilin protein family, which play a role in immunoregulation and basic cellular processes involving protein folding and trafficking. Unlike the other members of the family, this encoded protein does not seem to have PPIase/rotamase activity. It may have a role in neurons associated with memory function. The deduced 355-amino acid protein shares 26 to 28% sequence identity with other known human FKBPs. FKBP8 contains an N-terminal domain that is 33% identical to that of FKBP12 (FKBP1A), a putative leucine zipper domain, a 3-unit imperfect tetratricopeptide repeat (TPR) domain, and a putative calmodulin-binding domain. Northern blot analysis detected a single, approximately 1.35- to 2.4-kb FKBP8 transcript in all human tissues examined, with the highest expression in brain.
