G Protein Coupled Receptor 135 (GPR135)
GPR135 is a member of the rhodopsin family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPRs) . By database searching with conserved sequences of the rhodopsin family of GPRs as query, Fredriksson et al. (2003) identified EST and cDNA clones encoding several novel GPRs, including GPR135.
The deduced 494-amino acid protein contains the characteristic 7 transmembrane (TM) domains, a DRY motif in the intracellular side of TM3, and an NSxxNPxxY motif in TM7. GPR135 shares 81% and 96% sequence identity with mouse and rat Gpr135 proteins, respectively. It also shares similarity with bioamine receptors. Analysis of EST sequences indicated expression of GPR135 in a variety of tissues including eye, brain, cervix, stomach, and testis.
