Glycerophosphodiester Phosphodiesterase Domain Containing Protein 1 (GDPD1)

GDE4; Glycerophosphodiester phosphodiesterase 4

Glycerophosphodiester Phosphodiesterase Domain Containing Protein 1 (GDPD1)
Glycerophosphodiester phosphodiesterase (GDPD) is a glycerol metabolizing enzyme that has been previously identified in Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Bacillus subtilis and Borrelia hermsii. It has been also reported that there is putative protein containing GDPD domain in Mus musculus, but not in Homo sapiens.
GDPD1 encodes a member of the glycerophosphodiester phosphodiesterase family of enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of deacylated glycerophospholipids to glycerol phosphate and alcohol. The encoded protein is localized to the cytoplasm and concentrates near the perinuclear region. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
