G Protein Alpha Inhibiting Activity Polypeptide 2 (GNaI2)

GIP; GNAI2B; Guanine Nucleotide Binding Protein Alpha Inhibiting Activity Polypeptide 2; Adenylate cyclase-inhibiting G alpha protein

G Protein Alpha Inhibiting Activity Polypeptide 2 (GNaI2)
GNAI2 is an alpha subunit of guanine nucleotide binding proteins (G proteins). The encoded protein contains the guanine nucleotide binding site and is involved in the hormonal regulation of adenylate cyclase. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been detected for this gene, but the full-length nature of only two are known so far.
Itoh et al. (1988) demonstrated 3 distinct human G-alpha inhibitory proteins. Southern blot analysis indicated that a single copy of each gene is present in the haploid human genome.organization.Hermouet et al. (1991) demonstrated that activating and inactivating mutations of the GNAI2 gene have opposite effects on proliferation of NIH 3T3 cells.
