Juxtaposed With Another Zinc Finger Protein 1 (JAZF1)

JAZF1 encodes a nuclear protein with three C2H2-type zinc fingers, and functions as a transcriptional repressor. Chromosomal aberrations involving this gene are associated with endometrial stromal tumors. Alternatively spliced variants which encode different protein isoforms have been described; however, not all variants have been fully characterized.

A variety of cytogenetic abnormalities involving chromosome 7 have been reported in endometrial stromal sarcomas, including a recurrent t(7;17)(p15;q21). The deduced 243-amino acid protein has an N-terminal zinc finger domain and a nearly tandem pair of zinc finger domains close to the C terminus.
