Lysine Specific Demethylase 1A (KDM1A)

AOF2; KDM1; BHC110; LSD1; Amine Oxidase Flavin Containing Domain 2; BRAF35-HDAC complex protein BHC110; Flavin-containing amine oxidase domain-containing protein 2

Lysine Specific Demethylase 1A (KDM1A)
Posttranslational modifications of histone N-terminal tails, including methylation, impact chromatin structure and gene transcription. KDM1A functions as a histone demethylase and transcriptional corepressor.
The deduced protein contains 886 amino acids. RT-PCR detected expression of KDM1A in nearly all tissues tested, with highest levels in kidney and testis. Little to no expression was detected in pancreas and spleen.LSD1, has an N-terminal SWIRM domain, which is found in proteins involved in chromatin regulation, followed by a FAD-binding motif and an amine oxidase domain. By searching for proteins with both amine oxidase and SWIRM domains, they identified AOF1 (KDM1B) as a human LSD1-like protein, as well as several LSD1-like proteins in C. elegans, Drosophila, Arabidopsis, and S. pombe.
