Lysophospholipase III (LYPLA3)
Lysophospholipase III hydrolyzes lysophosphatidylcholine to glycerophosphorylcholine and a free fatty acid. This enzyme is present in the plasma and thought to be associated with high-density lipoprotein. A later paper contradicts the function of this gene. It demonstrates that this gene encodes a lysosomal enzyme instead of a lysophospholipase and has both calcium-independent phospholipase A2 and transacylase activities. The major variant encodes a deduced 412-amino acid protein containing a 33-residue N-terminal signal peptide. The mature 379-amino acid protein has an active-site serine residue within a lipase-like motif, 2 potential disulfide bonds, and 4 N-linked glycosylation sites. The minor form encodes a deduced 444-amino acid protein with a 32-residue insertion between the signal peptide and lipase-like motif.
