MYC Induced Nuclear Antigen (MINA)
The deduced 465-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of 52.7 kD. Additional alternative splice forms were isolated and correspond to a deduced protein of 464 amino acids lacking gln297 and a species containing a 101-bp insertion, deduced to contain the N-terminal 262 amino acids followed by 18 novel residues.
MINA shares 72% and 75% amino acid identity with the corresponding mouse and rat orthologs, respectively. Immunofluorescence studies localized MINA to the nucleus in a diffuse pattern with some distribution in a strong dotted staining pattern, corresponding to a nucleolar localization. Northern blot analysis detected a 5-fold increase in MINA expression after serum stimulation of serum-starved T98G glioblastoma cells.
